I am good for a while. I’ll talk more, laugh more, sleep and eat normally. But then something happens, like a switch turns off somewhere,
and all I am left with is the darkness of my mind.

The manic high isn’t worth the hell of depression.
Mike* knows what it’s like because he’s been there.
He was manic: on speed without speed, super social, the life of the party, roaring without sleep, making music, writing novels, and spending lots of money…
Paranoid: he closed all his curtains, purchased a huge safe, triple-locked his home, and placed weapons at his doors, in his car, and under his bed.
Delusional: he swore tiny bugs were crawling all over him.
Angry and agitated: he was super mean to those closest to him.
Depressed: he was like one of the “the walking dead.”
Dangerous: he had to be admitted to a psychiatric unit.
But Mike survived and is thriving today because…
He found a psychiatrist and a therapist that could see his authentic self hidden under a heavy blanket of depression or on a manic flight.
Today…
Mike is content. He owns his home, works full time, has health insurance, and has paid off his debt!
He writes, reads, runs, and plays the drums.
He loves so many things – like classic rock, the ocean, and Sunday football.
Mike is even thinking about dating again.
When you have bipolar disorder, you’re all over the place.
The euphoria can give you frantic, chaotic, angry energy…
You might feel paranoid one minute and omnipotent the next.
The depression can take you so low that you think about suicide.
Without effective, consistent, compassionate treatment, the behaviors related to these moods can be devastating.
I know you can thrive…
… if you commit to treatment. Find a therapist you trust and a psychiatrist who will listen… and accept their help.
I’ve been down this road. This isn’t your fault, and I’ll never judge you.
Let me join you on your journey. I want to be your trusted guide and confidant. I want to know the authentic you. I want to learn about the trauma you endured and the discoveries you’ve made through your illness.
I’ll be your partner, letting you know when you’re not doing well or have fallen off track. And when you do, I’ll help you back up.
I can also be your advocate, coordinating your care and accommodations with your doctor, family, employer, or government agencies.
You have goals. Let’s create a plan and environment to help you get there.
Full disclosure here…
My best friend, my brother, was diagnosed with bipolar as a pre-med student in his sophomore year of college. Since then, we’ve navigated through the tornado of mood swings, lack of access to treatment, and maltreatment. We have seen multiple therapists and psychiatrists and have dealt with the police, the ER, and the ICU.
Today, he has a degree, owns his home close to the beach, works full-time, and is mentally well!
I know you can be well, too… but you have to choose it!
