FAQ

What’s with the fireworks and Lady Justice image throughout your website?

I chose to use fireworks for two reasons: they symbolize freedom and bring me that feeling of awe. I believe the primary goal of therapy is to give you freedom from whatever is bringing you down. I also believe that those moments in therapy when you make connections/those a-ha moments are magical and beautiful like fireworks!

I hold a very strong passion for justice. Lady Justice is symbolic of those beliefs. Most specifically, regardless of one’s identity, we all deserve our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I believe that therapy is one avenue to that right.

Where are you located?

You will find me in Suite C14, on the first floor of the Business Technology Center in the newly redeveloped historic downtown of Florence. My address is 181 E. Evans Street, Florence, South Carolina 29506.

Free parking is abundant, with 24/7 security services.

What are your hours?
I am available to meet with you Monday through Friday from 9 am to 8 pm. Ideally, we will find a regular time that meets your schedule and reserve it for you weekly or biweekly.
Are you available to meet virtually?
Honestly, I believe that the best therapy happens in person. However, I also believe that making therapy accessible through technology is a welcomed convenience and necessity for some people. I am very open to discussing your preference and will decide based on your clinical needs.
How long are your sessions?
Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes. Couples and family sessions are typically 90 minutes. Session times may be adjusted to meet your individual needs.
Do you accept insurance?

I have decided to no longer work with insurance companies as part of my self-care. To assist you in utilizing your insurance, I will provide you with the required documentation to submit for reimbursement.

You can pay your bill electronically through a patient portal, check, or cash.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please notify me 24 hours in advance if you need to reschedule, or you will be charged for your session. Of course, if there is an extenuating circumstance, I will not charge you.

Can I bring someone with me to my sessions?

Of course, this will be your space and time to explore a path to wellness. You can bring a friend, a blanket/teddy bear, your pet, coffee… whatever you need to feel comfortable.

With whom do you work?

I enjoy working with anyone that I am qualified to help. My ideal client is an individual, couple, or family committed to doing the challenging and extremely rewarding work to change their lives.

I am qualified and have significant experience treating most issues or mental illnesses, be it Eating Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Autism, Self-Esteem, Relationship Conflicts, or Grief.

I believe there are more qualified therapists to work with young children and addiction issues.

What can I expect in the first session?

I will have reviewed your submitted paperwork. If you have not completed it, I will ask you to do so before sitting together. You must understand your client’s rights and my ethical responsibilities as a licensed clinician in South Carolina.

I will tell you that the goal of this session is to see if we connect. I will ask you to think about this after the session for one day and then text me if you want to continue our dialogue.

I will ask you, “What brings you here?” I will listen and jot down names that you mention and questions I want to ask. If I am unsure, I will rephrase what you share and ask for clarity. I’ll ask you if I got it right.

I will allow you to ask me any questions you have and do my best to answer.

Do you subscribe to a specific treatment theory?

No, throughout my decades of practice, I have learned that no modality works for everyone. I believe there is great value in Systems theory, Self-psychology, Cognitive therapy, and Narrative therapy.

Will you tell my mom or partner/spouse what I tell you?
I will only disclose what you tell me to the appropriate person/agency if I believe you are at risk of harming yourself or another person.
